What to Wear and What to Expect at Blank Space Studio
Coming to Blank Space Studio for the first time? A little planning makes the whole experience easier and more comfortable, and this guide covers everything, from what to wear to what actually happens once you walk in.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing is the main thing. Think a t-shirt or tank top, shorts, leggings, or an old pair of jeans, something loose, easy to move in, and something you'd be genuinely relaxed about getting a little messy and full of paint. Paint pouring is messy by nature, and while aprons and raincoats are provided, splashes can land on sleeves, cuffs, hemlines, and shoes. Acrylic paint dries fast and doesn't wash out once it sets, so this isn't the day for your favourite white shirt, light-wash denim, or anything you'd be upset to color.
A few gentle suggestions:
👟 We provide slippers to wear during your session, so you don't need to worry about your own footwear.
💍 Leave anything precious at home, rings, watches, delicate jewellery, and light-coloured fabric are easiest to just not worry about.
💇 Tie back long hair with a hair tie or clip if you'd like it out of the way during the pour.
👕 A change of top is only worth packing if you're heading somewhere fancy right after, otherwise most guests are totally fine wearing their session outfit for the rest of the day.

What should I bring?
Not much, honestly. Everything you need, including your canvas, paint, and apron, is already provided by the studio, along with full facilitation. You're welcome to bring your own drinks if you'd like, especially for a bring your own beverage (BYOB) Sip & Paint session, but it's completely optional. Plenty of guests come as they are and simply enjoy the session.
What time should I arrive?
Arriving around 10 minutes before your session start time works nicely. It gives you a moment to settle in, get comfortable, and hear a quick rundown before the paint comes out. No rush if traffic runs long, just give us a heads up.
What actually happens during a session?
Here's the general flow once you're in the studio:
- Welcome and briefing, your facilitator walks you through the technique, no experience assumed.
2. Colour selection, pick your palette for the canvas.
3. Mixing, paints get thinned to the right pouring consistency.
4. The pour, layer your colours and pour onto the canvas.
5. The tilt/dab/spin/pull etc, apply motion techniques to the canvas to guide the paint and watch the pattern form.
6. The reveal, this is the moment most guests say they didn't expect to enjoy this much.
A standard session runs about 2 hours, mini sessions with smaller canvases run 1 hour.

Do I need any experience?
No. This is the single most common question we get, and the answer is always the same. The technique does the work, not your hand. You pour and tilt, and the result comes together on its own. Most guests who tell us "I'm really not creative" end up with the piece they're proudest of.
Can I bring my dog?
Friendly dogs are welcome, as long as they're comfortable around people and paint, and stay close to their owner.
Do I take my painting home the same day?
Not quite. Artwork is ready 2 to 3 business days after the studio dries and glazes it. We glaze the finished piece and reach out once it's ready for pickup or delivery.
Where do I park?
Street parking is available for cars, and there's a basement garage for motorbikes.
