Most team workshops ask people to think differently. This one asks them to feel differently first.
The EQ Color Workshop is Blank Space Studio's signature corporate experience, a structured session that combines paint pouring, physical emotional release, and the Nonviolent Communication framework to help people understand themselves and each other more clearly. It runs 3 hours. It leaves a mark. Not just on the canvas.
Here's exactly what happens, and why it works.
What Does EQ Actually Mean Here?
EQ stands for Emotional Intelligence, the ability to recognize, understand, and manage your own emotions, and respond to others with empathy rather than reaction.
Most workplaces talk about EQ in training decks. The EQ Color Workshop makes it physical. You don't just learn a framework. You move through it, with paint in your hands and your team beside you.
The session is built on the OENR framework from Nonviolent Communication (NVC): Observation, Emotion, Needs, Request. It's one of the most researched communication tools in the world. Here it becomes something you experience, feel, and remember rather than something you study and forget.

The Four Stages of the Workshop
Stage 1, Color Your Mood
Every participant gets their own canvas, paints, and a prompt: color how you're feeling right now.
A traditional painting class asks everyone to recreate the teacher's example. The end result is art that's supposed to look like someone else's work. That's not what happens here. At Blank Space, the colors and paint take a life of their own. Each canvas becomes an abstract expression of the participant's emotions, personality, and choices. There is no reference image to measure yourself against. There is no wrong result.
Music plays. The room gets quiet in the way rooms only get quiet when people are genuinely absorbed in something. This stage is about emotional awareness. Seeing what's actually there, before the day's meetings and deadlines covered it over.

Stage 2, Learn Effective Communication
Once everyone has their first canvas, the facilitated portion begins. The OENR framework is introduced through real scenarios pulled from everyday work situations (conflict, feedback, unmet expectations, pressure).
How do you express a frustration without it landing as an attack? How do you name a need without it sounding like a demand? The framework gives language to things people already feel but struggle to say clearly. The combination of personal artwork and real-life practice makes it land differently than a slide deck ever could.

Stage 3, Emotional Regulation and Release
This is the stage that surprises people most.
Participants suit up in protective gear, reflect on a real situation that's been weighing on them, and then release it physically by exploding paint-filled balloons against a large canvas. It sounds chaotic. It is, a little. That's the point.
Physical release changes the emotional state in a way that talking about something rarely does. After the balloons, people are lighter. The room is louder. The walls are considerably more colorful.

Stage 4, Create a Collective Canvas
The final stage brings the team together around one large canvas. Each person contributes their colors (their emotional palette from the session). The result is a collaborative artwork featuring the team's brand colors and company name.
The canvas goes back to the office. It hangs on the wall as a visible reminder of what the team made together, a shared experience of seeing each other differently for three hours.

Who Is It For?
The EQ Color Workshop works best for teams navigating change, communication challenges, or moments where connection has been harder to find than usual. It has been run for teams across Ho Chi Minh City including ELLE Vietnam, Urgo, Joyful Nest, and RH1.
It's particularly valuable for high-pressure environments where people are practiced at performing and less practiced at expressing. The freedom-first format removes the usual hierarchy. The person who rarely speaks in meetings often makes the most striking piece in the room.
Individual sessions are also available for working professionals, expats, and anyone interested in emotional intelligence and self-development.
How Is This Different From Other Workshops?
A painting class gives you relaxation and a finished piece. That's genuinely valuable.
A coaching session gives you frameworks and logical clarity. Also valuable.
The EQ Color Workshop does something neither does alone. It takes the emotional experience of making art and runs it through a structured communication framework, so participants leave with both the felt memory and the practical language to apply it.
Art therapy offers relaxation but lacks cognitive depth. Coaching offers understanding but lacks the emotional experience. Generic hybrid workshops combine art and sharing but without a clear framework, outcomes stay vague.
The EQ Color Workshop moves through a structured transformation journey: emotional awareness, then understanding needs, then release, then communication skills, then re-creation. Each stage builds on the last. The outcome is a team that has seen themselves and each other in a new way, with real tools to carry that forward.
